Police Pistol Combat (PPC) Matches

BERPC has reached an agreement with Ultimate Defense to hold PPC matches on the 2nd Saturday of each month, with the first match being on June 11th of 2022. Matches will consist of several courses of fire (CofS) designed to conform to NRA Police Pistol Combat rules. Each match will execute the set CoFs twice, though shooters may elect to skip the second round.

New for this year, we will be returning a "draw from holster" format; however, shooters may elect to shoot from a low-ready position. This accomodation is primarily for new shooters who may not be comfortable drawing from a holster. New shooters, or those who do not have experience drawing from a holster, should make the range safety officer (RSO) aware that they will not be using a holster.

Course of Fire

The course of fire (CoF) may vary each month, but it will generally consist of 40 to 50 rounds per set of CoFs, so the round count for a match will be a maximum of 100 rounds. Each CoF will use NRA B-21 targets, and CoFs will range from 3 yards to 25 yards, using strong-hand, weak-hand, and two-handed (freestyle) grips. CoFs have a par time (the time allotted to shoot the CoF) based on the number of shots and the difficulty of the CoF (distance, number of rounds, reloads, etc.)

PPC rules are designed to allow revolvers to compete on an even footing by limiting capacity to six rounds and using par times for each string. Because magazines/cylinders are loaded to six rounds, some strings include reloads on the clock.

The CoFs for the June match are expected to be as follows (subject to change at the match director's discretion):

  • 3 Yards (par time: 10 seconds)
    • starting position: low-ready
    • 6 rounds; weak-hand only
  • 7 Yards (par time: 12 seconds)
    • starting position: holstered
    • 6 rounds; strong-hand only
  • 7 Yards (par time: 25 seconds)
    • starting position: holstered
    • 6 rounds; two-handed
    • Reload
    • 6 rounds; two-handed
  • 15 Yards (par time: 35 seconds)
    • starting position: holstered
    • 6 rounds; two-handed
    • Reload
    • 6 rounds; two-handed
  • 25 Yards (par time: 30 seconds)
    • starting position: holstered
    • 6 rounds; two-handed

PPC matches have a small amount of required equipment:

    • Duty-type handgun, either a revolver or a semi-automatic pistol; minimal modifications from stock (red dot optics are allowed)
